This Space is Myspace: This Space is Your Space
by Thom Jenkins
There are a plethora of social networking web sites available online; Tagworld,
Bebo and many others. However, by far the most popular is, yep you got it…
Myspace. Myspace allows users to create cool profile layouts, play music from
their favourite bands, discover new bands, meet up with old friends, make news
friends, post picture, post video, send messages, write bulletins and comment
on everyone else’s space. Myspace really does make the very best use of
the unique level of interactivity made possible by the Internet.
In fact, Myspace is so popular that people everywhere, of all ages, are constantly having to fight the urge to stop whatever productive task they are doing and log in to their Myspace account to check for new comments, message, events, invites, song, pictures, videos and/or bulletins. It is a fight that people are obviously losing as Myspace.com is the third most visited website in the whole of the English speaking world.
One of the main draws of Myspace is the ability to customise your very own profile page. Many users believe that the look and feel of someone’s Myspace profile can give a deep insight into that person’s personality. It does seem plausible, for instance, the song that they have playing, the answers they have displayed to the many Myspace surveys currently circulating the net - these must all reveal a little of who we are. As the craze kicked off, it wasn’t longer before webmasters (people who develop web sites, usually but not always motivated by profit) realised the potential market. As such Myspace Editor sites such as www.YourSpaceZone.com sprung up across the Internet. These sites make an entire range of Myspace tools available for use by their visitors, including but not limited to; myspace generators, premade layouts, cursors, games, videos, music, contact boxes, glitter images and much, much more Myspace stuff. All of thise helps Myspace users to make their profiles as attractive as possible. What’s the motivation? Well, the more attractive/cool/sexy your Myspace profile looks then the more likely people viewing your profile will want to add you to their friend list. Why would you want people to add you to their friends list? Myspace is for many people largely a popularity contest and having people add you to their friends can be a real ego boost. Moreover, the more friends you have the more people that will be able to comment on your profile and your pics and who doesn’t like to make new friends and meet new people?
Overall, Myspace has hit the Internet and Myspace editor sites such as YourSpaceZone
are riding the wave by providing users with what they need in order to optimize
their profiles and gain more friends.
